    Class of 2017 Recruiting Empty Class of 2017 Recruiting

    Post by jusblaze09 Thu Feb 10, 2011 11:10 pm

    Not enough talk about recruiting on the boards, so I thought "Why not have a thread where we can talk about recruiting." And here we are. Talk about anything concerning recruits in here. Wanna gloat over a kid you got over everyone, do it in here. Wanna talk about any sleepers you got, do it in here.

    First kid to commit to me (before the Texas game) was a 3* FS outta Connecticut. Name is Roshawn Ivey. Decent speed, but horrible agility. He's a big hitter and can press, but his man coverage is horrible so a move to corner is out of the question. Hopefully he doesn't end up having to play his FR year.

    Urban basically goes up to Georgia and steals the top two players in the state, both RBs who complement each other nicely.

    and I hate Slater not giving the home state team a chance. These days of coming into Michigan and stealing the top talent are going to end soon.

    I landed a five star back with decent speed and a nice balanced skill set that will fit my power running scheme. Also a 4 star free safety who will contribute on special teams.immediately and may play some corner

    Well, as Blaze said, I landed the No. 2 and No. 3 running backs in the nation. The best thing about them is that they are polar opposites of each other. Ones a power back and the other is a speed guy. I'd much rather pimp it with two running backs like in the Mack Brown, Marcus Weddle, and hell, even Trey Burton days. Hopefully I can keep something special going here in Gainesville with all this talent coming in.

    Had a 5* Guard commit the first week, Marcus Jackson out of Washington. He's 6'5, 297 and a strong blocker. Right now I have a freshman and sophomore playing LG and RG so he probably won't start right away, most likely redshirt his first season and take over the RG position his sophomore year. Kind of reminds me of Logan Mankins, big guy who excels at blocking.

    Got another kid to commit before the Wisconsin game. 4* WR Freddie Deluca from Allen Park High School in Michigan. Runs a 4.4. at 6'1" but his acceleration is not the greatest. Actually has good ratings compared to the other 4* WRs out there. Thankfully, he can redshirt his first year since we just took 6 WRs last year.

    This weekend was also the first of two big back-to-back recruiting weekends. Hopefully, some of these kids can make decisions soon so we can know if we need to move in a different direction.

    I had ten kids visiting for the Utah win and not a single committed. I have to think that my two byes in the first five weeks had an effect on my appeal to these kids.

    What started as a promising group of interested players is now looking much bleaker

    It's all just luck man. I played every week the first 4 weeks and had 11 recruits in for my win over rival Stanford. Only one of them committed; even though I'm first on all of them. It's just shitty ass luck.

    My two commits so far, *5 DE James Slater and 4* FS Paul Graves.

    The #2 defensive end in the country, James Slater instant committed to me the first week of the season; much to the chagrin of Michigan's coach jusblaze. He's big for a defensive end at 6'6, 250 lbs. He has decent speed and strength at a C and B respectively. His tackling and block shedding attributes are all good but not elite yet. Thankfully, Slater should be able to redshirt his freshman season and then see some action in his redshirt freshman or sophomore season.

    Following a big rivalry game win over Stanford last week, the Fighting Irish received a commitment from the #1 free safety in the country, Paul Graves. Graves was hotly contested as he comes out of Colorado and had offers from both Oklahoma and Texas who led on him throughout the beginning of the season. The environment and atmosphere of Notre Dame Stadium swayed Graves' mind however and he decided that South Bend was the place for him. Graves has excellent speed and acceleration at A+ and A- respectively. He has good tackling and coverage skills but needs some polishing up. He will redshirt his freshman season and will take over the starting role his redshirt sophomore year.

    3* DE Jeremy White just committed to me. He's huge (6'6, 235) and is a JUCO. Defensive end is a position I'm pretty weak at so he has a chance to start right away, or at least get in some form of 3 man rotation. As of right now I only have 3 defensive ends on the roster for next season, and they are all freshman.

    You better hope that DT likes you more than Auburn week 7 when he's at both schools (how is that possible, I don't know), or it could be a show.

    But yeah, looking at the ESPNU 150, here are some of the recruiting battles going on:

    #1 DT Dan Wilkinson is visiting Florida this week, then will somehow split time between Auburn and Alabama next week. He is down to his final 3, so a decision is coming soon

    #1 WR Kurt Hollis is at Texas this week, then will spend next week on the OU sideline during the Red River Shootout

    Georgia looks prime to keep #1 TE Mark Clark out of the hands of Urban and Stop, and if they still have the lead after these next two weeks, he should be a "Dawg"

    #2 WR Robert Deangelis visited ND last week, but is in Florida this week, and with Urban's man crush on GA, I think he has the edge.

    #2 ATH Joe Johnson is also gonna somehow split time between Auburn and Alabama week 7. We might need to find out how him and Wilkinson are in 2 places at once.

    C'MON TCU!!!! GET TERRANCE BRYAN!!!!!

    jhawk is really looking to get the #1 D-Line Class this year. If he can hold off Rauloe for #3 DE Vernon Sapp, you might have to give it to him.

    Hova looks like he is going to pull in #4 DE Justin Fulton over Urban and Joker

    That's just a few of the battles going on right now.

    Post by jhawk886 Sun Feb 13, 2011 7:26 pm

    Due to our recruiting restrictions, the game cannot accurately evaluate who has the best class given their situation. So I developed my own sort of ranking system that puts everyone on an equal playing field as far as determining who has the best recruiting class considering how many scholarships everyone has available. The way it is currently, Ho, with 25 available scholarships, could grab a few 4 stars, and all the rest 3 and 2 stars and end up with a higher ranked class than Rauloe even if Rauloe brings in a couple 5 stars and the rest 4 stars, just because of numbers. I think given the situation, with Rauloe only having 10 scholarships available, if he were to pull that off, his "recruiting class" should be ranked much higher than Ho's. So without further ado, (And I doubt anybody else other than myself even cares; just think of me as Eamonn Brennan, the annoying ESPN blogger who thinks he's smart but is probably the dumbest person on the planet) here are my current rankings:

    1) Florida = 56.84 (2 5*s, 2 4*s)
    2) Florida State = 36 (3 4*s, 1 3*)
    T3) Notre Dame = 33.75 (1 5*, 1 4*)
    T3) USC = 33.75 (1 5*, 1 4*)
    5) Ohio State = 24 (1 4*)
    T6) Miami = 21 (1 4*, 1 3*)
    T6) Michigan = 21 (1 4*, 1 3*)
    8 ) Oklahoma = 19.2 (1 5*, 1 3*)
    9) Texas = 15 (1 4*)
    T10) Alabama = 0 (0 Commits)
    T10) Auburn = 0 (0 Commits)
    T10) Cal = 0 (0 Commits)

    I just decided to use the number 100 as a common denominator to level the playing field according to scholarships available (100/# of scholarships available). After that I take the number given and multiply it by 3 to make the point difference between * levels slightly more. Then I award points for each recruit based on their star level. This is the formula, I'll use Notre Dame to demonstrate:

    100/16 = 6.25

    6.25*3 = 18.75

    18.75/5 = 3.75

    3.75 = 1 star

    7.5 = 2 star

    11.25 = 3 star

    15 = 4 star

    18.75 = 5 star

    Notre Dame currently has 2 commits, a 5* and 4*; so: 18.75 + 15 = 33.75

    I just landed a.couple guys for.my secndary one is.a four star safety who has some speed and.man.coverage skills, Tom Leonard, also has some solid hit power. Will make an imact in nickel and dime packages immediately. The other is a three star corner. He has decent speed and can jump, also is 6 foot 3. Is raw in many areas and will be redshirted.

    I brought in the #9 outside linebacker, Danny Dougherty. He's huge at 6'6 and is a run stopper, which will definitely help in the 335 scheme I run. OLB is a really thin position for me so getting some depth there was one of the key things I tried to do this year.
