Honestly, there isn't much "checking" to do after somebody does them. The biggest things you "check" are that everyone has 6 home/away games, plays the same number of users (4 in our case), and now check to make sure everybody plays 8 conference games.
Realistically, there isn't really anything that's going to change too much once their done because that will just fuck them up more than they already are. If you found a major issue, you would have to go back and really redo the entire thing, screwing things up majorly.
One of the biggest issues is that we already fuck up CPU teams' schedules by making ours, this is inevitable. Some people don't give a shit about the CPU team schedules. I, for one, do. If we screw them up too much we'll end up with CPU teams playing only 10 games. This may not be an issue to some people but it will be when that team goes 9-1 and steals a BCS spot from a user.
Another CPU team scheduling issue we face is that if we aren't careful we'll take away a rivalry game from those teams. I just hate doing that in general, but there is a practical purpose in it now especially since we have the coaching carousel and coaches can get fired for not beating their rival. We really should try to disturb the CPU's schedules as least as possible.
That in a nutshell is the main difference between Urban and I doing the schedules. I go a lot more in depth with it, trying to wreck the least amount of havoc on other teams' schedules and pay closer attention to detail.
I have a spreadsheet system that assists me in the process and allows me to ensure that all users play their rivals and generally have their user games spread out with hopefully none or only a few week 1 user games. I always give guys week 1 games and nobody ever has a back-to-back bye.
Most of those things were things we saw this past season in Rivals. They aren't horrible, inexcusable things so it's not a huge deal. It's just that's the trade-off you have between getting them done in an hour to an hour and a half, or them getting done in four hours or so.
As far as this last season goes and the issues we faced, I wouldn't have been able to "solve" any of them. The issue with Joker and Clark probably would have been avoided by having that game be played later in the season and I probably would have placed that game later but that's not guaranteed. The issue with Ho and not playing I don't know if I could've solved or not; it depends on the ability to change conference games which I think isn't possible season 1. I would've caught the problem and we could have started over to try and fix it but I can't promise I could've solved it.
At the end of the day, Urban did a decent job on Rivals schedules last season. If you want him to do the schedules then that's fine, it saves me a shit ton of time and frustration. I think the product I turn out is superior in quality but that's for you guys to decide. Whatever you wanna do, I'm cool with, my Hawks are gonna play much better this year regardless of the schedule.
I've seen hawks spreadsheet and it's very thorough. In all honesty, there is no way you can do as good a job as Hawk without that spreadsheet. It takes a long time, but you know you're gonna get the best possible schedule.
I hate to say it, but Urbs is not so thorough lol. He does a decent job most times, but for the convenience of having a schedule quicker and being able to start sooner, you MAY have a few problems.
I'm not saying the problems in Rivals were Urbs fault. I'm not saying that at all. As glitchy as this game is, it might have shown the right schedule then changed when we advanced. That actually has been a glitch before. I'm just saying, you guys are gonna have to decide whether you want thorough, but time consuming or not so thorough, but less time consuming. I'm kinda a perfectionist with shit like that so I always prefer thorough no matter how much time it takes. Well you guys know that. Yall know how long I take during recruiting lol.
