    Playoff Chase Empty Playoff Chase

    Post by Brownsfan23 Fri Oct 19, 2012 6:24 pm

Division leaders, and who is in the hunt for the wild card.

    AFC
Kansas City Chiefs- Remaining schedule- @Browns, @Redskins, @Broncos,Colts

The Chiefs are currently the best team in the NFL, behind their rushing attack as well as stellar defense. Their passing could be a concern in the playoffs if their rushing attack isnt there. 2 division leaders left to play,Browns and Colts, with a loss to the Colts giving the Colts the tiebreaker.

Indianapolis Colts- Remaining schedule-Titans, @Texans, Chiefs, Texans

Another team that is solid in rushing as well as getting stops. Can rookie Andrew Luck lead the Colts to a strong playoff push after Peyton Manning left? It remains to be seen. With a game left against the Chiefs, they can dictate their own destiny.

New England Patriots- Remaining schedule-Texans, 49ers, Jags, Dolphins
The Pats probably have one of the more balanced attacks in our league behind a solid defense. They still have a chance at a 1st round bye, as well as being on the road for the wildcard. The most important game on the schedule is the last game against the Dolphins. If both teams win out to get to this game, it could change around playoff positioning.

Cleveland Browns-Remaining schedule-Chiefs, Redskins, Broncos, Steelers

Behind a solid defense and good rushing attack, the Browns have been a good story for the NFL. However after a 6-0 start, they have gone 3-3 with inconsistent play. A once big division lead has shrunk, and the schedule isnt any easier. Can the Browns hold down to its division lead and homefield advantage in the 1st round?

    Teams in the Hunt

    Miami Dolphins, 10-3- Remaining schedule-Jags, Bills, @Pats

After starting 1-3, the Dolphins have been on a 9 game win streak with a chance to sneak in and either get homefield or a 1st round bye. If they can secure wins against the Jags and Bills, it could lead to a big game in Foxboro.

    Houston Texans, 7-5-Remaining schedule-@Pats, Colts, Vikings, @Colts

The Texans have a tough schedule to try to get a wild card spot. With games at Foxboro and Lucas Oil, the Texans have to fight for their playoff lives. Can their offense carry them with momentum into the playoffs?

Cincinnati Bengals, 8-5- Remaining schedule- @Eagles, @Steelers, Ravens

Not only do the Bengals have a chance at the wild card, but they could take the division lead with the Browns struggling. Behind a young offense and solid defense, the Bengals have turnaround their team to be in playoff contention.

Pittsburgh Steelers-7-5, Remaining schedule- @Cowboys, Bengals, Browns, Chargers

Another team to start off slow has brought themselves into possible playoff contention. The Steelers like the Bengals have a chance at getting into the playoffs or taking the division, but have to beat the Browns and Bengals to do it.

    NFC

Carolina Panthers-11-2, Remaining Schedule- Chargers, Raiders, @Saints

The best team out of the NFC right now, by their high powered offense led by Newton, they have showed a major improvement from Newtons rookie year. Their defense is solid as well, 8th in sacks and 5th in picks. Can the Panthers bring Newtons promise of a championship? They already clinched their division, but can they clinch homefield in the NFC as well?

Detroit Lions-9-4, Remaining schedule-@Cardinals, Falcons, Bears

The best passing attack in the NFL, led by Stafford and Johnson, the Lions are looking to make more noise in the playoffs after last season. They also lead the league in sacks and tied for 3rd in INTs. But their remaining schedule is tough with two teams looking for either playoff positioning or getting into the playoffs. WIll the Lions be able to continue with the high passing offense and attacking the opposing QBs defense? Or will the Madden curse catch them late

Cardinals-10-3, Remaining schedule, Lions, Bears, @49ers

The Cardinals have been overlooked so far this season. They have a top ten passing attack as well as a solid run game, along with a solid defense that can get to the QB. Their schedule is tough, but no one in their division can threaten their lead. The Cardinals are still in it for a 1st round bye or even home field in the NFC, its up to them to finish it. But with the Bears and Lions needing these games as well, it will be extremely tough.

Dallas Cowboys-8-5, Remaining schedule, Steelers, Saints, Redskins

The Cowboys started slow but have slowly built up a solid record and team, and with no one in the NFC east right now to get back into the division, its up to the Cowboys to not choke like they did last season. They have two games against playoff possible teams in the Steelers and Saints so their schedule is tough, but with a game against the Redskins, it might just be enough to get into the playoffs. Can Romo finally put a super bowl run together, or will Jerry have to vacation early?

New Orleans Saints-9-4, Remaining schedule, Bucs, @Cowboys, Panthers

The Saints have quietly built a solid record as well as a top 5 defense. They cant take the division but they can guarantee themselves a playoff berth. The most important game probably being against the Bucs, who are also fighting to get in. Can the Saints defense lead them to the playoffs? Will Bress ignite his passing attack and surprise everyone in the playoffs?

    Chicago Bears-8-4, Remaining schedule,@Vikings, Packers, @Cardinals, Lions

The Bears simply put have a tough schedule. The Lions and Cardinals lead their divisions, and the Packers are trying to get into the wild card as well. The Bears cannot afford to lose 3 of the 4 games or their playoffs hopes are done, would be sad since the Bears have finally built a solid offense in Chicago with their solid defense. If the Bears get in, people should be prepared.

Green Bay Packers-9-4, Remaining schedule, @Bears, Titans, @Vikings

They currently have the 2nd wild card spot in the NFC, but the Bears and Bucs are not far behind. Their schedule is relatively easy the rest of the way, and a win against the Bears might clinch for them and end the Bears playoff hopes. Aaron Rodgers might need to do a discount double check to keep the lead, but like the Bears, the Packers are a very dangerous wild card team.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers-8-5, Remaining schedule, @Saints, Rams, @Falcons

The Bucs are a wild horse team right now, especially if they get a win against the Saints. With an easy schedule and win over the Saints, the Bucs could sneak into the playoffs and make noise with their young offense and defense.

    Small update.
Pats-Dolphins winner next week gets division
Browns clinch with win or Bengals loss, Bengals clinch with win and Browns loss
Texans are 8-6 and Jets 9-6, if they win out and Browns or Bengals loses, could lead to a different playoff team depending on how tiebreakers work.

The playoff chase is coming to a head, many teams this year can still get in. I added a W-L record against teams I see in the playoff hunt. Im also including recordings of each divison, to see how good divisions are, however since some divisions have CPU teams, it skews them a bit.

    Standings

    AFC North-15-21
    AFC South-16-20
    AFC East-24-14
    AFC West-22-14

    NFC North-19-21
    NFC South-20-16
    NFC East-11-25
    NFC West-22-17

    AFC
Record in parenthesis is record against team in playoff chase, ie mentioned these posts.

Patriots- 9-0(4-0) @Raiders, Dolphins, @Redskins, Broncos, Eagles, Jets
The Patriots once again are in the playoff talks behind their high powered offensive attack. The sting of losing to the Chiefs last season has clearly motivated them, and with a 4-0 record against playoff chase teams, they are looking good. However, the remaining of the schedule involves all playoff chase teams, so the Patriots road to the playoffs wont be easy.

    Raiders-8-1(4-1) Chiefs, Pats, @Chiefs, Jets, @Packers, Broncos, @Titans
After a struggling season last year, the Raiders have started off strong in the AFC west. Pryor has been an efficient QB for them and the raiders are playing well on both sides. There remaining schedule involves all playoff chase teams, however the 3 most important games are Pats, and Chiefs, @ Chiefs. The Raiders could make a big statement in that 3 game stretch, or lose momentum.

    Chiefs-7-2(3-2) @Raiders,Bengals, Raiders, @Broncos,Jets, @Dolphins, @Chargers
The Super Bowl champs are trying to repeat, they retooled in the offseason by adding big time WR Victor Cruz to compliment their run game, but it remains to be seen if Johnson can once again work magic in the playoffs. 5 of their remaining games are against playoff chase teams, with the season ending at San Diego. A 5-2 finish could hold their spot in the playoffs, or overtake the Raiders in the AFC West.

Texans-7-2(4-1) Broncos, Browns, Colts, Titans, DOlphins, @ Jags, @ Falcons
The Texans made some moves in the offseason by trading elite WR Andre Johnson for Navaro Bowman, but that move hasnt phased them. 3 of their remaining games are against playoff chase teams, but wins against the Dolphins or Broncos would help.

    Jets-7-2(3-2) @ Redskins, @ Dolphins, Titans, @ Raiders, Chiefs,Chargers, @ Patriots
TEBOW!!! Who would of thought Tebow would have them in the playoff race? After missing the playoffs last season, the Jets might fly into the playoffs and maybe cause some noise. 6 of their games are against playoff chase teams, 5 of them that could affect their positioning in the AFC.

    Bengals-6-3(3-3)@Steelers, @Chiefs, Seahawks,@Browns,Ravens,Rams,Colts
The Bengals are trying to do improve on last season by getting farther in the playoffs. 3 of their games are against playoff chase teams, but they need to continue with the wins to hold off the Steelers in the AFC North.

    Dolphins-6-3(3-2)@Eagles, Jets, @Pats,@Bills, Texans, Chiefs, @Giants
The Dolphins made some good moves in the offseason by adding MLB Dqwell Jackson and solidifying their secondary with Cason and Munnerlyn after trading Smith. They are in a tough AFC East and have 5 games left against playoff chase teams, these games are gonna be important considering playoff position.

    In the Hunt

Broncos-4-5(1-5)@Texans,@Vikings, Chargers, Chief, @Patriots,@ Raiders, Packers
The Broncos started the season off strong at 4-1, but have lost 4 in a row. 6 of their games are against playoff chase teams, most likely would need to finish 5-2 or 6-1 to have a chance at the wild card.

    Steelers-4-5(1-4)@Bengals,@Titans,@49ers,Jags,@Colts,Browns,Cardinals
The Steelers finished 500 last season, but want to get the towel back into the playoffs, it all starts with having to beat the Bengals. They have 4 games against playoff chase teams, if they can get on a win streak as well as beat the Bengals, they might have a chance at taking the division.

OK here is the AFC, the NFC will be posted later. So you guys are allowed to comment. Please dont thank me in this thread, just release a decent WR and let me know about it Idea

    NFC

    Cardinals-10-0(5-0)@Panthers, Rams, @Eagles, Seahawks, 49ers, Steelers
The Cardinals once again are at the top of the NFC, and want to erase what happened to them in the super bowl. 5 of their games remain against playoff chase teams, but some of these games are against playoff hopeful teams, so the Cardinals cant rest now.

    Saints-8-1(4-1)@Titans, Rams, Panthers, @Bucs, @Panthers, @Colts, Lions
We really never hear from the Saints, but their record shows that they are ready to go further in the playoffs. 5 of their games are against playoff chase teams, and they got the Panthers twice, plus a game against the Lions that can change seeding between the two.

    Lions-8-2(5-1)Packers, @Vikings, @Bears, Chargers, @Broncos, @Cardinals, @ Ravens
Lions made some solid moves in the offseason, adding more weapons at WR, as well as building their secondary. 5 of their games are against playoff chase teams, With key games against the Packers and Cardinals. If the Lions can play consistent defense, behind their high powered offense, they could make noise in the playoffs.

    49ers-7-2(3-2)Cowboys,Redskins, Steelers, @Giants,@Browns,@Cardinals, @Ravens
49ers added to their offense by getting Michael Vick and Andre Johnson, with Willis still manning their defense. They have 3 games against playoff chase teams, but their last 4 games are all on the road, could make or break them.

Here is where things get interesting. As of this post, 7 teams have a chance at the wild card in the NFC

    In the Hunt

    Packers-5-4(2-4)@Bucs, @Lions, Bears, @Chargers, Raiders, Lions, @Broncos
The Packers are still in it, and with two games against the Lions, could take the NFC North. They have 5 games left against playoff chase teams, games against the Bears could decide their fate as well.

    Panthers-5-4(0-4)@Falcons, Cardinals, @Saints, Falcons, Saints, Bears,@Jags
Panthers were strong last season but are struggling this season. 6 of their games are against playoff chase teams, with games at the Saints being very important. The Panthers can turn their season around with their next 4 games.

    Redskins-5-4(2-0)Jets,@49ers, @Cowboys,Patriots,@Colts,@Bills,Cowboy
Under new ownership the Redskins have taken over the NFC east and are in playoff contention. They are in the hunt however because of how close the Eagles are to them. They have 3 games left against playoff chase teams, all would help to keep their lead. However games against the Cowboys could help or hurt them.

    Seahawks5-5(1-5)@Falcons, @Bengals,Vikings, @Cardinals, Ravens, Rams
The Seahawks have had their ups and downs this season, but still have a chance to make the playoffs. Only two games left against playoff chase teams, but wins against the Cards and Rams could go a long way.

    Bears4-5(3-5)@Chargers,@Bucs, @Packers, Lions, Falcons, @Panthers, Vikings
Bears are another team with inconsistencies, but still have a shot at the playoffs. Their 4 game stretch starting at Green Bay and ending at Carolina could be key in their playoff hopes.

    Falcons-4-5(1-5)Panthers, Seahawks, Texans,@Panthers, @Bears, Vikings,@Bucs
Falcons struggled last season, but retooled in the offseason through the draft and free agency. Their next 5 games are against playoff chase teams, with all having importance in their own way. Behind a rookie QB, it remains to be seen if he can lead them to the playoffs.

    Eagles-4-5(2-4)Dolphins,@Cowboys, Giants, Cardinals,@Rams, @Patriots, Bills
Last but not least the Eagles. After struggling last season, the Eagles are in the playoff chase after making some moves in the offseason with some of their veterans. They have 3 games left against playoff chase teams, but could take division if they in their in division games as well as 1 or 2 of their playoff chase games.

Ok here it is, Ill try to update the post once I found a more efficient way of recording stats
