Texas stops upstart Cal 71-14
Austin, TX-- After a lackluster showing against rival Arkansas, the Texas Longhorn defense put on a virtuoso performance scoring 23 points with 8 sacks, 4 turnovers and knocked star QB R. Clark from the game early on. The Longhorns also held the vaunted option attack of Cal to -18 yards on 26 attempts.
Heisman Trophy candidate David Freeman once again was a huge factor in a user game as he went for 205 yards on 11 carries the longest a 74 yard TD scamper just before halftime.
Things started off poorly for the Bears as Fred Henry picked off Clark on the first series, and on the 2nd play from scrimmage, Freeman went 51 yards to the house.
With the score 14-7 Texas delivered the knockout blow with 17 points in a mere 25 seconds and Cal would never recover. Texas scored on back to back sack fumble return TDs and would go on to score 31 points in the decisive 2nd quarter.
From there Coach stop pulled Rice and Freeman and both teams went to conservative tempo to get the blowout over with faster.
Good game that could have been much closer if not for the turnovers. For now Cal just doesn't have the horses to compete with Texas but if they keep recruiting well this could be a very dangerous squad in the future.
Can't wait to see if any of the many recruits in attendance are ready to become Longhorns...

yeah i couldnt believe it when he broke out on that run. he was possessed out there today. again im sorry about the score we just kept hitting home run plays. I'm sure it will be much tighter when we go to Berkeley.
