Class of 2018 Recruiting Empty Class of 2018 Recruiting

Post by jusblaze09 on Mon Feb 28, 2011 1:41 am

New year, new thread. Here are some things to look out for:

    SCHOLARSHIP ALLOTMENT FOR C/O 2018

Auburn - 6 Scholarships allowed (17 seniors, 68 on team now, 16 Commitments)

Cal - 5 Scholarships allowed (18 seniors, 70 on team now, 16 Commitments)

Florida - 10 Scholarships allowed (19 seniors, 67 on team now, 15 Commitments)

Florida State - 11 Scholarships allowed (13 seniors, 66 on team now, 9 Commitments)

Miami - 5 Scholarships allowed (14 seniors, 67 on team now, 15 Commitments)

Michigan - 5 Scholarships allowed (15 seniors, 70 on team now, 13 Commitments)

Notre Dame - 8 Scholarships allowed (8 seniors, 67 on team now, 6 Commitments)

Ohio State - 9 Scholarships allowed (11 seniors, 61 on team now, 12 Commitments)

Oklahoma - 8 Scholarships allowed (16 seniors, 66 on team now, 15 Commitments)

Texas - 3 Scholarships allowed (18 seniors, 69 on team now, 19 Commitments)

USC - 1 Scholarship allowed (15 seniors, 68 on team now, 19 Commitments)

At 6'8", 213, Wallace Lloyd come in as the Nation #1 player. The MS ATH runs a 4.6 40 and can get off any block easily. Destined to play in the front 7, Alabama is his early favorite, but don't sleep on Florida and ND who could move up quickly.

Mark Mason has made defenses look silly for three years. With his 4.4 speed, he is the nation's top QB for this class. Top option teams Texas and Florida are his top two, but Oklahoma is right there with them for Mason.

If I had to give a guess on who is the favorite to have the #1 class today, it would be between USC or Texas. Out of 28 5* recruits, over half of them either have the Trojans or Longhorns as their top team. It's a long way to go though, and anything can change.

Im very excited about the starting prospects for this seasons class. That being said after having a number of top targets poached last season we are keeping our nose to the grindstone and praying for the best

Blaze, I'm officially dubbing you the recruiting guru for rivals. If you want to handle the responsibility, you can be in charge of recruiting limitsand stuff like that. Seems like you're pretty interested in that stuff anyway. If it's too much work, I can figure them out real quick.

Yeah, I can sign the full 25 this year, so hopeully I can pull in some talent. Bad news is I don't have a lot of top-name guys sitting on my board right now. I'm going to fight my dick off to sign Mark Mason, so if any of you guys don't want a fight for him, stay away.

I just finished my board and it looks like I'm gonna have to really fight this year for recruits. Bama is back to 6* and it looks like every recruit from the southeast and they mama wanna either go there or Florida. I'm gonna have to battle this year lol.

Lol, it must just be the guys that you're recruiting that want to go to Florida, because my crop is definitely down this year....at least for guys with me No. 1 on their list that I want.

Well during our pre-game film session in preparation I was able to hand the duties over to my assistant head coach and make some calls. 4 of our targets committed to us straight away and we are hoping to show them a good game on TV tonight.

First up was Keith Reese, an overachiever type QB from Apple Valley. He is not the biggest guy, but is strong and think for his height, good arm, pocket passer. Will redshirt and sit behind current true sophomore starter Josh Hicks and looks to develop into a quality D1 quarterback.

Next, I got in touch with ATH Jay Ashley. He is a Hawaii boy and was hard to find as apparently he spends most of his time in the water and (hopefully not) getting high. Not a very explosive back but projects as a quality fullback/halfback/te combo. Will redshirt

Third to commit was MLB Anthony Moore, hes an all around very good player with good, but not exceptional, speed, strength, hit power, and block shedding. Will redshirt behind and develop into a quality starter.

Finally we received a fax from the mother of one of our targets saying he was already looking at living arrangements for his Freshman year at USC. Left Tackle Heath Lewis, from Garden Grove CA. Quick for a big guy, very good run blocking strength but needs a year or two to develop before hes ready for the likes of Florida and Notre Dame.

I hope spreading my minutes out more doesnt backfire...we will see. If I can just land 2-3 of those 5 stars I wil lbe happy.

3* FS Justin Nance from playoff-regular Tecumesh High School in Michigan is the first commitment for the Wolverines. Stands at 6' 180lbs, Nance is a high 3* player. Good speed, can tackle, and plays sideline to sideline. Needs to work on his zone skills, but his man skills is up there. The plan is to reshirt then compete, but with the FSs on the roster right now, he could come in and get PT.

For the 2nd straight year, I get no insta-commits. WTF? I'm fairly confident that my class this year will be nowhere near as good as last years because a lot of my need positions aren't very interested in me and/or outside of my pipeline. That means more time will have to be spent on them. **sigh** Looks like the 3 year thing will have to wait if this goes how I think it will. Sad

23 schollys gonna be huge for me. I can retool my offense which has struggled the last 2 years. 4* T instant commit. Thats gonna be a good one to shore up my O Line.. Some nice Top 150 players out there this year. Hopefully ND UF dont snatch em all up...

I got two instant commits this week. The number 2 overall QB standing at only 6'0" will get redshirted his first year and may see the field his second year. The other one I got, was the second overall SS, coming in as a hard hitter, he will get redshirted then be a force in the next few years in my secondary

Yeah, I'm glad I didn't add that QB to my board. When I saw him I thought about adding him to my board then said naw Clark is prolly gonna get him to insta-commit and sure enough, you did.

The FS I got happened to be the #9 FS, so Michigan is getting it back.

After zero insta commits last yr Texas bounces back in a huge way with 5 signings week 1.

After not signing a QB last yr coach Stop made sure to land the #1 QB in the country Mark Mason. Mason with his 4.4 speed and athleticism is a perfect fit for the UT power spread. The valedictorian of his class, Mason will redshirt and then see the field in special option packages in his first year.

When you have the best QB in the land you have to protect him so we inked the #1 Tackle Wes Lacey and the #6 guard Lee Macklin both from Texas. They both will be redshirted as we continue to stockpile depth on the line.

We also added some much needed depth at TE with Marcus Leak #4 at his position. He will redshirt and be the #2 tight end if not the starter if Ross leaves early.

On the Defensive side we nabbed the #2 MLB Daniel Harris. He can run and cover so he can play in our system. Won't see the field for a long time with our depth at LB but it's nice to have him on board.

Looks to be the start of yet another insane class

But where are my 5 instant commits if the game loves Notre Dame so much too? I have ONE guy on my board right now who has me as his #1. And he started with me there and didn't instant commit to me last week. How many instants did you get? Oh yeah 2. And what were they? Oh yeah both 5*s. But yet ND gets all the love and Bama gets none.

Hey, let the string of QB insta-commits continue.

OH 4* QB Derrick Torres moved Michigan up to #1 this week, and commited as soon as we offered him. Torres runs a 4.5, which is mobile enough for our system. His arm strength is up there with the best, but his accuracy leaves something to be desired. If he comes in rated high enough, he will be the starter with the look of my backups.

Finally got my first recruit of the season, a 3* juco guard named Patrick Haynes. He has decent stats and because most of my O-line is graduating next year, he'll surely come in and start right away. I'd rather have a true freshman come in and redshirt and stuff, but I'll take what I can get at this point. I need all the help on the line I can get.
